Akagera National Park
For the true adventurer who wants to follow in the footsteps of the 19th-century explorers, a visit to the Akagera National Park is a must. Located on the border with Tanzania, Akagera National Park could scarcely be more different in mood from the breezy, cultivated hills that characterize much of Rwanda. And the park’s Akagera River, situated within an African savannah landscape comprised of tangled acacia woodland and open grasslands, is home to an array of varying ecosystems.
Akagera National Park is known for its big game. Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes. This is not the game viewing of well-established national parks like Kruger and the Serengeti; this is the game viewing for the lovers of wilderness. Giraffe, zebra, and more than a dozen types of antelope inhabit the park.
