Lake Manyara
30 miles long, the sodic waters of Lake Manyara are a scenic gem, described by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”
Lake Manyara National Park is within easy reach of Arusha and is blessed with great diversity, with an expanse of lush forest contrasting with the grassy floodplain and the alkaline lake.
Lake Manyara is famous for its wonderful flocks of flamingo, tree-climbing lions, and large-tusked elephants in a unique setting. Buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, and zebra are also abundant.
The best time to visit Lake Manyara for its scenic beauty and water birds is from March to June, and for game viewing in the dry months from July to October.
