Last night we attended The Wedding Salon bridal show at Capitale in New York City as one of 61 vendors, and we had an absolute blast! We met hundreds of beautiful soon-to-be brides and their “bridal entourages,” introducing them all to the beauty and enchantment of southern and eastern Africa and showing them what an African honeymoon safari really looks like.

See below for a few pictures from the event:

When we asked brides, “What does your dream honeymoon look like?” the majority of the brides said “something that’s different.” This was a common theme throughout the night.

The great thing about Africa is that it is unlike any place on the planet! It is the epitome of “different.”

So what makes Africa so unique from any other destination on earth?

Wildlife

There are hundreds upon hundreds of species of animals that are endemic to Africa and can be found nowhere else on earth. These animals include everything from giraffes to lions and African penguins to African elephants, as well as a large variety of bird species. It’s also one of the few places on earth where you can view the Marine Big 5—which includes the southern right whale, dolphin, great white shark, African penguin, and Cape fur seal—all in one area!

Honeymooners can view these animals up-close in an assortment of ways, such as on game drives, interactive bush walks, horseback riding safaris, and mokoro (traditional canoe) safaris. Nowhere else in the world can you view these animals in their natural environment at such close proximity. The rawness of the experience is unparalleled to any other.

Wine country

Ah, Cape Winelands. One of the most romantic places ever! Here, the architecture, cuisine, and wines are completely unique to the area.

Honeymooners can explore the quaint villages of Paarl, Fransschoek, and Stellenbosch by foot or bicycle, soaking in the rich history and breathtaking Cape Dutch architecture (built when the Dutch colonized the area in the 1650s). They can also enjoy wine tasting safaris on horseback, meet the wine makers, and enjoy romantic picnics amongst the vines.

Beaches

From the beaches of Spain to Tahiti, and Hawaii to the Caribbean, there are so many beaches to choose from. But many of these destinations only offer a beach-oriented experience. In Africa, not only do you have hundreds of secluded, sprawling beaches to choose from, but you also get to experience culture, exotic wildlife and safaris, hiking, horseback riding, and so much more. You can literally be on a beach in the morning and a big game safari in the afternoon. That’s the beauty of Africa!

Culture

Southern and eastern Africa are home to dozens upon dozens of tribes that still practice the traditional customs and rituals of their ancient ancestors. From the Maasai people of Kenya to the Himba people of Namibia, and the Sans Bushmen tribes of Botswana to the Xhosa people of South Africa, Africa is bursting with rich, ancient culture—something that is truly rare in the world today.

Some of the ways that travelers on an African safari honeymoon can immerse themselves into the fascinating cultures of Africa include interactive bushwalks with the Sans tribesmen, bicycle rides with the Xhosa people through their villages, and educational tours with the Maasai.

Accommodations

From lavish boutique hotels to luxurious bush camps with modern amenities, and rustic lodges to charming beach bungalows, southern and eastern Africa are home to some of the most diverse accommodations in the world.

Tented camps, for example, are some of the best ways to immerse yourself into nature. Some of these camps are semi-mobile (which means they move with the migrations), while others are completely stationary. But it’s important to note that all tented camps that we send clients to are luxurious, spacious, and contain modern amenities.

Lodges, on the other hand, offer accommodations that usually have thatched roofs instead of canvas coverings.
