Experience the Serengeti Under Canvas

by Sandy Salle on September 17, 2019

There are those that want walls, doors and windows while in camp and there are others (most of the Hills of Africa team!) that just want canvas between us and the animals. You can experience a classic Tanzanian safari in spectacular solitude and soothing comfort – with only the canvas walls of your tent separating you from the wonder of the Serengeti – if you so choose.

Carefully positioned for close proximity to the wildlife herds of the Great Migration, there are two Serengeti Under Canvas camps (North and South) providing the ultimate viewpoint for this amazing animal spectacle.

With only eight tents nestled at each private campsite, enjoy the indulgence of complete comfort combined with the authenticity of nights spent in the African bush.

Serengeti Under Canvas features nine spacious safari tents, each with a double bed, ensuite bathroom, separate w.c and al fresco bucket shower. Redolent of classic safari style, custom-made Indian rugs, crisp linens, sparkling crystal and polished brass lend flair to the simplicity of camping.

At &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas game drives are tailored to suit your preference, with a choice between shorter, twice-daily drives or one long all-day game drive with a stop for a picnic lunch. The annual movements of the camps are carefully planned to anticipate the progress of the Great Migration, so you should not have to travel too far to see the vast herds. However, if the Migration has moved off or the dramatic river crossings are in progress, you may choose to spend more time on the vehicle in order to maximize your chances of seeing this incredible phenomenon.

When the Migration herds are not within easy reach, the camps remain in some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the Serengeti, with game drives setting off in search of the exceptional resident game. This will allow for some magnificent, private game viewing, while there may be significantly more vehicles present during the Migration months, particularly at river crossings. As you may be spending most of the day on the move, our safari vehicles are closed, with roll-down canvas windows and pop-top roofs. All game drives are conducted in the Serengeti National Park.
