Did you know that statistically speaking, Americans who take more than two weeks of vacation per year and enjoy leisure travel, experience greater productivity at work? Just ask Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, who was recently interviewed by Travel Market Report for their article on Roger Dow Q & A: Taking Time Off Pays Big Dividends.

In the article, Dow states, “research shows that business productivity actually grows when workers take their time off. They come back refreshed and recharged. That sounds like an old wives’ tale, but it’s accurate.”?He goes on to say that they also “found lots of evidence about the benefits of taking time off – studies that show people who take more than two weeks of vacation are less likely to have a heart attack. Things of that nature.” Eek!

So, if you’re one of the millions who works to the bone, it’s time to take a break and relish in the fruits of leisure travel (or at least add some leisure to your business trips!). Your family, health, and company or career will thank you tremendously for it.

And there is no better place on earth to take a break from it all than in Africa. Below are 7 reasons Africa is the ideal place to enjoy some much-needed time off:

1. Africa’s remote scenery and breathtaking nature is revitalizing and peaceful: Whether you work in the city or suburbs, you will experience nowhere close to the type of nature you’ll be amongst in Africa. Imagine sitting on your private veranda, surrounded by canopying milkwood trees, watching a herd of elephant drink from the nearby watering hole with only the sounds and sights of nature detectable. There’s no distant cars, airplanes, lights, or people to hear or see. It’s pure nature—something few Americans have the chance to experience.

2. Discover inspiration in the cultures of Africa and apply to your work: The people of Africa are known for being extremely humble, kind, and grateful. Having the opportunity to interact with locals and learn about their culture can inspire your work and the way you live your personal life. There is no greater gift in this world than having the opportunity to interact with different cultures—it can truly transform your life.

3. It’s difficult to use technology in the African bush: Lucky for you, unplugging from technology can be quite easy (or should I say it’s somewhat forced) when you’re in the African bush. Many areas you may be staying in are remote and lack cell coverage and Internet access. So you won’t be stressing about work or emails—out of sight, out of mind, right?

4. Explore the world with your family: To me, there’s nothing I’d rather spend my money on more than family vacations. Our schedules are so busy throughout the week that sometimes its difficult to sit back and appreciate the small amount of time we have with each other. We’re always thinking about what needs to be done next or where we need to be in an hour. An African family safari vacation allows you to really enjoy the moment with your family and explore the world’s mysteries together. These are the moments you will cherish forever.

5. Enjoy some much-needed introspection: Exploring the earth and how other people live can inspire a tremendous amount of introspection that can change your life for the better. In order to grow in this life we must experience introspection and there is no better way to do that than through travel.

6. Relax, explore, and / or experience adventure: You work super hard each and every week, so when you need a vacation, what types of things do you like to do? Do you enjoy sitting on a beach doing absolutely nothing? Wine tasting and enjoying new cuisine as you overlook the ocean? Horseback riding throughout the countryside (or next to a herd of zebra!)? No matter how you wish to unwind, Africa has something spectacular for every hard-working person out there. Revitalizing your mind, body, and spirit through activities and experiences that you love can help reboot your mind and give your body a much needed break from stress.

7. Do something bold: Chances are your weeks are pretty hectic but routine. You wake up in the morning, turn on the news as you get ready, workout at the office, start the work day, come home in the evening for dinner, watch some more news, maybe look through your investments online, then off to bed. This routine likely doesn’t fluctuate too much. So why not add some zest to your life and switch things up with an unforgettable trip to Africa, filled with bold adventures? You might find some new hobbies that you love! Some of our favorite adventures to send clients on include white water rafting at Victoria Falls, shark cage diving in South Africa, sand boarding in Namibia, gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and SO much more.
