South Africa Bicycle Tours – A Picturesque Adventure

by Sandy Salle on May 28, 2015

Whether you’re an avid bicyclist or simply enjoy a recreational ride now and then, South Africa is by far one of the best places in the world for biking. With varying terrain, stunning landscapes, and intriguing towns, South Africa offers bicyclists a world of exploration.

Below are two of our favorite South Africa bicycle tours, offered by AWOL Tours:

Winelands Meander: Enjoy a relaxing bicycle tour through the charming and historic Cape Wineland towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek or try out the mountainous terrain of these regions on a mountain biking tour. Either way, you’ll have the opportunity to soak in some of the world’s most beautiful winelands and experience the rich history of the area through sightseeing.

A knowledgeable expert guides each tour and will take you through the historic areas, as well as some of the region’s most famous wineries guides each tour. During these cycling tours, you’ll have the opportunity to taste various wines, pop into quaint art galleries, and enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch.

Cape Point Tour: One of our favorite South Africa cycling tours, AWOL’s Cape Point Tour is a personalized journey along the stunning Cape coast. Guides are extremely knowledgeable of the geography of the area, as well as the region’s wildlife and culture, stopping along the way to share facts, stories, and legends about the area and answer any questions you may have.

The tour begins in the Cape Peninsula section of Table Mountain National Park where your guide will escort you to the Boulders Beach penguin colony to view adorable little African penguins as they bask in the sun and plunge in the ocean.

You’ll then venture along the reserve’s meandering roads, through the beautiful Cape Floral Kingdom, where you’ll see stunning flower and vegetation, as well as beautiful views of the ocean. Along the way, you might also see some baboons, antelope, and ostrich!

You will then come across the Cape of Good Hope – the most South-Westerly corner of the African continent. You can then feel free to hike along the peninsula to Cape Point – soaking the breathtaking scenery.

After a hike, you can choose to enjoy a picnic for a delicious seafood lunch at the Harbour House, overlooking False Bay. The food is incredible and the views are equally as impressive!

After lunch, you’ll continue your ride along Chapman’s Peak into Hout Bay and Llandudno, where you will enjoy some refreshing sundowners!
