When you think of the world’s most beautiful beaches it’s easy to think of the Caribbean, French Polynesia, and the British Virgin Islands. But what many avid beach-goers don’t realize is that southern and eastern Africa are home to some of the most exceptional beaches in the world. Plus, Africa has WAY more to offer than gorgeous beaches.

See below for some of my favorite beach destinations in Africa:

North Island – Seychelles: Off the eastern coast of southern Africa lies one of the most enchanting and treasured places on earth, The Republic of Seychelles. As many of you might already know, famous couples such as Prince William and Kate Middleton and George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin, enjoyed their honeymoons in the beautiful Seychelles. Well, we’re not one bit surprised! Not only is Seychelles one of the most romantic places in the entire world, but it is also one of the most secluded and exotic, boasting some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. North Island is a Wilderness Safaris property and is celebrated as one of the most beautiful resorts in all of the Seychelles.

When visitors to North Island aren’t relaxing on the beach they can take part in a wide variety of relaxing (and adventurous!) activities, which include scuba diving, snorkeling, birding, bike riding, sea kayaking, fly fishing, and spa treatments.

Benguerra Island – Mozambique: Beach lovers rave about the beauty of Benguerra Island, a charming island in the Bazaruto Archipelago that’s located just off the coast of Mozambique. The tropical resort of Benguerra Azura offers visitors the ultimate beach-getaway experience, featuring 17 lavish beach villas that are each just a few steps from the pristine beach. The villas also include private plunge pools, Mozambican butler hosts, and comfortable and luxurious amenities.

Guests enjoy relaxing days on the beach without the crowds, as well as fresh seafood picnics on the beach, refreshing tropical cocktails, and an assortment of beach-related activities. Some of these activities include scuba diving, snorkeling, dhow sailing tours, island walks, big game fishing, and revitalizing spa treatments.

Mauritius: One of the leading tropical retreats in the world, One&Only Le Saint Geran resort in Mauritius is a lavish sanctuary built for the discerning jet-setter. With a kilometer of private beach, One&Only Le Saint Geran is speckled with looming coconut trees and lush gardens, which provide the perfect sanctuary for travelers looking to relax and connect with the soothing sounds of the ocean and nature.

Each of the private suites has a terrace or balcony that faces the Indian Ocean so that guests will never miss a view.

Visitors on a Mauritius vacation can indulge in exceptional spa treatments, golf, an assortment of water sports, and fascinating island excursions.

Mnemba Island – Zanzibar: Situated off the coast of Tanzania is the enchanting and quaint Mnemba Island. Our favorite property on this island is andBeyond Mnemba Island, which accommodates just 20 people at a time, making it one of the most personalized and lavish beach retreats in Africa. The property’s white, secluded beach spans as far as the eye can see – perfect for simply lounging with a cocktail in hand, enjoying a private beach picnic for two, or taking lazy walks.

The area is also celebrated for its exceptional sea life and vibrant coral reefs, which can be explored during a snorkeling safari or scuba diving. In addition to colorful reef fish, guests also frequently observe anemone, dolphin, rays, sharks, and green turtles.
