For example, at Olarro Lodge in Kenya, the Olarro Juniors Adventurers Club (OJAC), for children 6-years-old and up, features a certified local Maasai guide who introduces the kids to the African bush and the Maasai culture with . . .

• Animal tracking techniques: Kids become junior Maasai detectives as they listen for animal calls, search for animal tracks, and discover the hidden treasures of the bush.

• Survival techniques used in traditional Maasai culture: From constructing a shelter to building a fire from natural resources found in the bush, children experience the legendary lifestyle of the Maasai people.

• Plants used for medicinal purposes: Kids learn about plants and their practical uses from the toothbrush tree to the wet wipe tree and the disinfectant shrub to the chewing gum tree.
