Many of the merchants are Sakalava, the island's first inhabitants and most prevalent ethnic group.

From here, we will enjoy a drive through the luxuriant countryside, passing Malagasy villages and plantations. During brief stops in the fields, you will likely smell the aromas of the lush crops, which may include coffee, pepper and the coveted ylang ylang, a tree whose flowers yield fragrant oil that is used in the making of perfumes. Ylang ylang is so abundant that Nosy Be is often referred to as the Island of Perfumes.

A seafood lunch cooked onsite will be served during this full-day excursion.

Nosy Komba or 'The Island of the lemurs' offers a visit in a private and community park to discover lemurs and the typical flora of the island. You will also meet the Sakalava women with their traditional hairstyles, make-ups and clothes. Their famous hand-embroidered tablecloths will undoubtedly charm you.

Nosy Tanikely (located only a few miles south of Nosy Be) is a tiny, uninhabited island surrounded by patches of shallow coral and sandy beaches. Famous for its marine reserve the island's surrounding waters are teeming with underwater flora and fauna, allowing visitors the chance for some superb snorkeling in warm waters with great visibility. Here, divers and snorkelers can discover angelfish, clown fish, puffer fish, grouper and spotted stingrays while swimming alongside with turtles in shallow water. Thousands of reef fish, schooling jacks, harlequin shrimp and blue ribbon eels are found along with leaf fish of all colors and numerous species of moray eels.

It is also an excellent spot for diving, especially for beginners. During November and December whale sharks consistently feed in the rich waters around Nosy Be and sharks can be seen feeding in crystal clear waters at Manta Point. During July and August, humpback whales migrate through the Nosy Be area, and sperm whales have been one of the rarer encounters.
