Day 2 - Lake Manyara

Today is your first day on safari you and your guide will drive, the 2 and a three hour drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park National Park.

Lake Manyara Tree Lodge

Crafted from local timber and makuti (palm fronds), Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is discreetly tucked away in an ancient mahogany forest in close proximity to the exquisite soda lake. Each tree house suite features large windows to invite the lush forest inside. The classically elegant rooms are fitted with contemporary furnishings in neutral colors and textures. Overlooking a forest boma (outdoor dining area), guest areas are soaring spaces housing Dodoma artworks and tactile fabrics. The interiors of the tree houses are a sumptuous combination of natural fibers, pure cotton linen and contemporary furnishings. The bedrooms consists of four-poster bed-like draping and earthy, understated accessories in natural colors and textures. Overhead fans and mosquito nets as well as en suite bathrooms with baths and large twin hand basins ensure that every comfort is attended to. There is an exhilarating outdoor shower while the private verandas have comfortable furniture and offer extensive views of the lovely forest environment.

Accommodations: 1 Lake Manyara Tree Lodge room on a full inclusive basis for 1 night

Day 3 - Ngorongoro Crater

Today, you will drive up into the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge consists of three adjacent, glamorous camps with 30 Maasai-inspired suites perched on stilts on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. From the outside, this unobtrusive lodge resembles a magical Maasai village. Set in classic crescents, each stone and thatch suite has spectacular views of the crater from large glass windows in the bathroom, lounge and bedroom, yet is almost invisible from the crater floor.

North and South Camp have 12 suites each, while intimate Tree Camp has six suites. All have an en suite bathroom and chandelier-lit bath-tub and shower. Each sumptuous suite is discreetly tended by a personal butler, who will bring you tea in bed, stoke your fireplace and draw your bath, scattering the water with rose petals, ready for your enjoyment.

Accommodations: 1 Ngorongoro luxury room for 2 nights on a fully inclusive basis

Day 4 - Ngorongoro Crater

You will spend today exploring the Ngorongoro Crater area.

THE NGORONGORO CRATER - The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Not a national park in the strict sense of the word, the NCA was established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources, as well as to safeguard the interests of indigenous people and promote tourism. Thus, guests on safari have the unique experience of seeing Maasai herdsmen whose cattle graze side by side with the tremendous variety of wildlife found in the area.

Unmatched for its natural variety, there are few places on earth where such a tremendous diversity of landscapes exist inside a region this size. Apart from its wildlife riches, the NCA is also of great archaeological importance, with the remains of some of mankind's earliest ancestors discovered in the area.

The largest intact caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens anywhere. A permanent population of more than 30,000 animals inhabits a mere square 260km (100 square miles) in the 600m (2,000 ft) deep crater, making this one of the few places in Africa where guests stand a great chance of seeing the entire Big Five in the course of a single game drive.

Day 5 - Singita Grumeti Reserves, Serengeti

Today you will be driven back to Lake Manyara's airstrip. Here you will say goodbye to your private guide and vehicle before you fly across the Serengeti to Singita Grumeti Reserves.

On arrival at Singita your Singita guide will welcome you and drive you up to Sasakwa.

Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Singita Sasakwa Lodge is one of three Singita lodges in this enormous private concession (340 000 acres), which means that you'll have this wild stretch of Africa all to yourself. Sasakwa Lodge is built in the style of an Edwardian manor house. Stone walls, deep verandas, high ceilings, stately furniture, silverware and ornamental pieces complete the picture. Each cottage has a private infinity-edge pool overlooking 'where the land stretches to forever'. The bedrooms with inviting four-posters are beautifully appointed, displaying typical African influences with touches of wood, leather and grass, alongside crisp linens, imported chandeliers and hand-crafted furniture.

Each air-conditioned suite features a bedroom, lounge with fire place, veranda, en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, dressing area, guest bathroom, guest toilet, private living room, private plunge pool and veranda with Swarovski spotting scope. Cottages feature a personal bar and fridge, electronic safe, air-conditioning, direct dial telephone (US lines), wireless internet access and fire replaces. There is wheelchair access to certain cottages.

The entrancing view from on high is an ever-changing tapestry of grasslands, clouds and wildlife as they move across the landscape. The view within of long elegant hallways and inviting sitting rooms is faithful to the architecture and furnishings of the most splendid colonial era homes. Were Karen Blixen, the author of Out of Africa, to arrive at Sasakwa today, she would recognize a spot imbued with the same aesthetic that she lavished on her beloved home in the Ngong hills outside Nairobi.

Accommodations: 1 luxury Singita Sasakwa cottage for 4 nights on a fully inclusive basis

Day 6 - The Serengeti

The 1.5 to 2 million animal strong movement of wildebeest, zebra and other grazers in a constant event in The Serengeti and Masai Mara. The time of year that you travel will determine the area of the Serengeti and the Lodge that you stay in. You may stay in a luxury tented camp that is nomadic following the animals as the move or a private safari lodge like Sasakwa, but you will spend your days amongst herd of thousands of animals.

This is truly one of the greatest wildlife shows on the planet and a must see for anyone on safari in East Africa.

Day 9 - Katavi National Park

Today you fly from Singita Sasakwa and The Serengeti to Chada Katavi.

Nomads Chada Katavi

Katavi National Park remains one of the greatest wildlife experiences of Africa. Miles from anywhere, it has an almost mythical status and, it's thought, a greater density of mammals than any other Tanzanian reserve. Massed on the plains are the last great herds of buffalo in East Africa, up to 1000 head. Rivers groan with hippopotamus, and crocodile. Almost everywhere you look there is something grazing, bellowing, fighting, mating, hunting. Days on the hoof in Katavi can be wild beyond belief. In this mega-beast land all animals need a really good place to hole up, and for a decade Man's retreat has been Chada Katavi, hidden on a shady spit of acacias and tamarinds on the edge of the great Chada plain.

This is the place for the wildlife connoisseur, and the traveller who thinks the African bush can offer up no more surprises. Happily indulged, watching the elephants head out to water as dusk falls, you feel like one of the last great pioneers; binoculars in your hand, Africa filling your head.

Since we first hammered in the guy ropes ten years ago - the only camp in a million wild acres - it has evolved into a rather civilised campaign HQ. Come dinnertime, the mess is nothing short of splendid, silverware gleaming and glasses shining in the lamplight. Hidden in the trees that flank it are just six guest tents with fine wooden furniture, woven rugs and beds spread with crisp white Egyptian cottons. The tents are large, romantic and airy and the bathrooms bush deluxe. Days on the hoof in Katavi can be wild beyond belief, and Chada Katavi is the perfect place to return to after a day of safari adventure. Steaming hot showers await, and the thoroughly good white wine on your porch table is perfectly chilled.

Accommodations: Nomad Tanzania - Chada Katavi Tent [FI] for 3 nights

Day 12 - Lake Tanganyika

Today, say farewell to Chada's wilderness as you fly to Lake Tanganyika and the Mahale Reserve.

Nomad Tanzania - Greystoke Mahale Cottage

There are few places left on earth that might rightfully be called Eden, and the Mahale Mountains is one of them. The mountains soar to 8,000 feet above the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, which at 420 miles long and 30 miles wide, is a veritable inland sea. The nearest road is almost 100kms away, and that is the most minor of tracks. The slopes of the Mahale Mountains rise behind camp, home to the world's largest known population of chimpanzees. Within hiking distance is one such group of 60. Every day you can venture out into this deep and magical forest to observe them, our closest relatives, as they groom, wrestle and forage across the leafy floor.

Your home at Greystoke Mahale is in wildly exotic wooden bandas looking out across the soft sand beach, with interiors fashioned from seasoned dhow timber. The suites are open-fronted, with dressing rooms, adjoining bathrooms and upstairs chillout decks; designed with flair, generosity and passion for the most demanding castaway. With no roads for miles and miles, everything is done by foot or boat. As if a day's "chimping" wasn't enough, you can kayak along the lakeshore, snorkel, or fish, have a private barefoot dinner on the beach or get friendly in the wildly thatched mess. For some evening pizzazz, there's the bar of all bars on the rocks (of course) of the headland, with twinkley mirrors, fresh sashimi and iced vodka, looking way out west across the mighty waters of the lake.

Room: 1 x Cottage on a fully inclusive basis for 3 nights

Day 16 - Zanzibar

Today you fly from Mahale to Zanzibar and the Indian Ocean.

Mnemba Island

The pristine white beaches of Mnemba, surrounded by deep blue ocean, combine to make this intimate island your own private tropical paradise. Mnemba is inhabited only by guests and the staff taking care of them. While the dazzling sands and brilliant sunshine invite you to spend idle hours on shore, magnificent coral reefs create an underwater wonderland that lures you to explore the warm, crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. Scores of snorkelling and diving sites form a gateway to a world of incredible sea creatures. This exquisite private island with its white coral sand beaches and spectacular coral reefs is renowned as one of the world's most romantic ocean destinations, offering a seclusion and rustic exclusivity unparalleled on the African coastline.

Set off the northeastern tip of Zanzibar and surrounded by a coral atoll, Mnemba is home to a staggering diversity of marine life. In an effort to protect and preserve these precious ecosystems, &Beyond has partnered with the Zanzibar government and the local fishing communities to have the atoll and its surroundings proclaimed the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area. Mnemba Island Lodge is a barefoot paradise on a private island, where just ten simple but luxurious palm-frond bandas lie hidden in a tropical beach forest fringed by a white beach. Midway between the bandas and the Indian Ocean are shaded traditional Zanzibari 'beach' beds, perfect for reading, sleeping, gazing at dhows or doing nothing at all. Romantic candlelit dinners are served on the beach with the waves gently lapping a few meters away.

Room: 1 x Bandas on a fully inclusive basis for 4 nights

Day 20 - Dar es Salaam

Today you must sadly say goodbye to Africa and begin your safari home. You will fly across to Dar es Salaam to connect to your flights home.

Safe travels and we hope you have lived the Magic Of Africa.
