Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife areas, with much to offer year-round for visitors on a trip to Tanzania. Created two million years ago when the cone of a volcano collapsed, this 100-square-mile cavity is blessed with all the necessary ingredients to create a wildlife paradise.

The crater is famous for its large herds of animals, including black rhino, hyena, and black-manned lions. Elephant bulls are seen in the crater itself, but the cow herds prefer to stay up in the forested areas of the Ngorongoro highlands and rarely venture down to the crater floor. The local Masai people, who are pastoralists, live around the crater. Therefore, travelers can enjoy game-viewing Tanzania safari tours and cultural activities while visiting.
